ROF and i decided, about a year and a half ago, to start watching the american film institutes (afi) top 100 movies of all time. i highly recommend you give it a try. it will take years. we are only on #61 working our way backwards from 100 to #1.
i have cheated, ROF has not.
i can not sit through one more freaking charlie chaplin movie ever ever ever again. i do not care if his movies were break-through but they were not funny and boring as hell. this is my blog and i can say whatever i want. i did not watch shane because i have a medical condition called ADD. and the first sign of a wagon wheel i ran for my laptop and feigned interest for the first half hour then got up and left.
however, this has been a fun journey with lots of memories along the way. we’ve seen some movies that we would have never seen otherwise. last summer, we took one we were dreading watching on vacation with us. we thought if we needed one “down day” we’d force ourselves to watch it. it was my fair lady with audrey hepburn. both of us loved it and the rest of the vacation swiftly became riddled with quotes from the movie. ROF did his best cockney pre-transformed hepburn accent “wouldcha like a flower miss” over and over to my giggles and to the dismay of fellow swimmers in the hotel pool.
right off the bat,
at the start of the list is a brilliant ‘guess who’s coming to dinner” – what a movie! Here are my favorites, for sure:

i think i got this confused with a movie called broadcast news or something like that because i never heard about it. look it up here in wikipedia and see that, not only did the movie win all kinds of awards, is so relevant today. also, the freaky real background of the actors. if you haven’t seen it, rent it. watch it on a rainy day unless you’re in texas. we haven’t had one of those in months.
